Do no harm. If you get it wrong, settle quickly

Midwives at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, in Nuneaton, effectively killed baby Imogen Skelcher. Her life support machine was switched off when she was just two days old.

That was back in March 2011, but the hospital has only now paid a settlement, following the involvement of lawyers.

The Trust says several lessons have been learned as a result of this case and changes implemented to improve processes as a result.

There seems to have been a series of what sound like basic failures.

Hospitals: remember patients are your paying customers. Treat us accordingly. First, do no harm. If you get it wrong, say sorry and settle quickly.
