Merkel thinks ahead (Osborne watches DVDs)

An interesting profile of Angela Merkel in the New York Times.
The European Union, she is fond of noting, comprises only 8 to 9 percent of the world’s population of seven billion; for now, Europe still accounts for 25 percent of gross domestic product globally, but a staggering 50 percent of social spending.
She's thinking ahead about what that may mean - more than our leaders show signs of doing.

All being attended to.
Soon pensioners too will have to be available, and looking for, work.
Since the state pension bill is 70% of the total benefit bill.
Most of the health service will be run by private companies soon, a short step to payment for same being from individuals and not the state.
Taxation and national insurance (tax on jobs) will remain except for employers NI contribution) so the deficit will soon be zero. People will have to take-out private health insurance, so the service industry will get a shot in the arm (to go with the now compulsory private pension) (even though private pensions only gain value due to tax reliefs).
All Good Fun.
