Proper sentences

Everyone knows Guido is campaigning for a return of the death penalty.
We petition the government to review all treaties and international commitments which may inhibit the ability of Parliament to restore capital punishment. Following this review, the Ministry of Justice should map out the necessary legislative steps which will be required to restore the death penalty for the murder of children and police officers when killed in the line of duty.

The findings of the review and the necessary substantive legislation to be presented to House of Commons for debate no later than 12 months after this petition passes the acceptance threshold.
But of course many sentences are too lenient.

For instance, Inspector Gadget writes about a tragic family. One male involved
In 2004 ... broke a Met policewoman’s jaw and received a suspended sentence.
This just isn't good enough.

Regret I am very much in the restoration camp, John, for acts of 'cold-blooded' murder - oh and treason by political leaders and their politicians!

Policemen in the line of duty? Are people somehow less dead if they are nurses or binmen or schoolteachers or are murdered while they are off duty?

WfW, you'd have to define 'cold blooded' in a legally water tight way.

And there have been a few cases over recent years where people have been 'fitted up' for murders.

W42, it's not about how dead they are. It's about killing someone who's enforcing the law.

As long as we are in the EU, it's pointless talking about this at member state level. You have to get out first.

Professor Schachtschneider (Public Law, University of Erlangen Nuremberg), on the other hand, claims that the Lisbon treaty gives EU institutions the power to impose the death penalty "in time of war or imminent threat of war" (which is any time at all).
Many people contest his view but he was the advocate who persuaded the German Constitutional Court to issue an injunction restraining the Federal President from signing the original EU constitution into law . If it's still available you can Google Schachtschneider 10 and get his speech (with English subtitles) where explains this.
